I was born on the 30th of July 1966 in Ipswich, Queensland. I grew up playing a sport at Ipswichs Northern Surburbs Tigers alongside my brothers. I was coached at Ipswich Jets in my early days. I became a key player at the age of 18 for Brisbane Rugby League premiership. I was named Broncos player of the year at the end of the 1988 NSWRL season. I suffered a broken leg in 1989. I recovered to go on the Kangaroo Tour. I became captain of Broncos in 1992. I played for Australias Rugby League World Cup. In the 1993 NSWRL season, I played halfback for defending premiers Brisbane. In 1995, I lost my representative position along with other high profile players. I announced my retirement in the 1999 season. I came out of retirement to play in the English Super League competition. In 1998 I was appointed national team captain.
